Philippine company looks to improve European business

Integrated Microelectronics Inc. (IMI), a Philippine-based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, announced Thursday a partnership with German player BuS Elektronik GmBH & Co. KG. IMI expects the alliance to help improve its business in the European electronics market.

In a statement, IMI said it will jointly seek with BuS Elektronik subcontracting projects from European OEMs. It will also utilize the latter's facility in Riesa, Germany for prototyping products and low-volume manufacturing requirements of its customers in Europe.

'This partnership offers a win-win opportunity for both parties. IMI's facilities in China, the Philippines, and Singapore can service the customers of BuS who want to develop, produce, or sell their electronics products in Asia,' said IMI president and CEO Arthur Tan.

IMI merged with Singapore-based EMS player Speedy-Tech Electronics Ltd in December 2005. Its manufacturing facilities in Jiaxing and Shenzhen, China; Laguna, Cavite, and Cebu, Philippines; and Singapore serve more than 100 OEMs based in Japan, China, the U.S., and Europe across various electronics segments.

At present, IMI said European customers account for 11 percent of its annual revenues and aims at increasing this further to 15 percent by the end of 2006 by engaging more European OEMs in product design and development, and mass manufacturing of their electronics products.

BuS Elektronik is a medium-sized EMS provider and its customer base in Europe includes mainly automotive and industrial electronics OEMs.

IMI, meanwhile, also offers contract electronics design services aside from its core manufacturing capabilities. It has manufacturing facilities in China, the Philippines, and Singapore; a prototyping and new product introduction center in Tustin, California; and design and engineering centers in Singapore, China, the Philippines, Japan, and the U.S.
