No iPads Allowed in This Week in GeekTech

11.03.2011
The iPad 2 might be a great gadget, but if you're like me, you're probably more interested in some of the other stuff going on in the tech universe this week (and I have an original iPad sitting right next to me as I type this). Like, say, a historic space flight that came to an end. Or a slot machine that serves up drinks. So step away from that iPad! It's time for This Week in GeekTech.

What's better than winning at the slots? Getting a drink from a slot machine. The clever folks at NYC Resistor hacked together the BarBot, a drink-mixing gadget built in a slot machine. Cha-ching!

The Space Shuttle era is coming to an end, and Discovery just wrapped up its final flight. Get a synopsis of the final mission.

A NASA scientist thinks he's discovered fossilized remains of alien microbes in a meteorite. Exciting stuff, eh? Except...not everyone is convinced. Hit up the story and decide for yourself.

The NES may be obsolete, but that doesn't make it completely useless. One geek modded an NES and game cartridge to work as a flash drive and USB dock of sorts. OK, that is kinda of useless, but it's also ridiculously cool. Check it out.

On a more serious note...our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone affected by the major earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Here's a story from our Patrick Miller and Alex Wawro on how to keep tabs on what's happening in Japan, and how to find your friends and family.

If you're looking to help relief efforts, , and give what you can, even if it's only a few dollars. Every little bit helps.
