No GBA Games for Late 3DS Owners

11.08.2011
Nintendo's Amabassador program is a pretty nice deal for current 3DS owners. On September 1, they'll be able to download 10 NES Virtual Console games to their system including:

* Super Mario Bros.

* Donkey Kong Jr.

* Balloon Fight

* Ice Climber

* The Legend of Zelda

Later in the year, these same titles will become available to the general public for a fee. But Ambassadors will get exclusive access to 10 GBA games as well.

The currently slated titles include:

* Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

* Mario Kart: Super Circuit

* Metroid Fusion

* WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$

* Mario vs. Donkey Kong

While this doesn't preclude GBA games ever coming to the general public, Nintendo reiterated in a press release today that "these games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future.

While it does fill me with a warm fuzzy feeling that my early 3DS purchase wasn't completely in vain, I'll be a bit sad if none of my other GBA favorites (the Final Fantasy remakes, Advance Wars, and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) ever become available...well, unless they're part of the remaining five games Nintendo has yet to announce.
