1. Parcel. Delivered by TNT in two seperate parcels (one for the iPad, the other for the Smart cover and 3G Micro SIM)
2. Contents. Inside we have the iPad box (still minimalist design, and the colour of the iPad matches the model inside). We went for white this year. The Smart cover design hasn't changed either. The SIM is supplied separately in the UK (in the US it is pre-installed into the AT&T model).
3. The rear. Still nothing to report. Other than Apple's breathtaking confidence in not having any promotional blurb on the rear of the box.
4. Box size. The UK iPad box (right) is slightly larger than the US version we recieved last year. This is because it requires slightly more room to fit a UK plug adaptor (which is larger than the US version).
5. Inside. Opening the box reveals the iPad face up.
6. Under the iPad. Underneath you'll find the rest of the contents. A manual and charger (with the cable beneath the manual).
7. The UK adaptor and manual. The manual also contains the SIM tool on the reverse side.
8. All the manuals lined up. A brief set of instructions, warranty card, and two Apple stickers. The metal object is the SIM tool.
9. Taking off the cellophane. Always the most fun part.
10. Side by side. In design it's idential to the iPad 2. If you didn't know the white one was new you'd probably not be able to tell them apart.
11. The SIM card. The slot is still on the right hand side.
12. inserting the SIM. Push the SIM tool (or use a paperclip) into the hole to eject the tray holder.
12. Smart cover. As before it just clips right on to the iPad.
13. Switch on. The iPad comes charged. Just press the Sleep/Awake button to get started.
There you have it. The new iPad set up and ready to roll. The setup process is the same as before, although you can now set up the iPad and restore using an iCloud backup rather than having to connect to a Mac.
