Mahindra Satyam to help train professionals for oil and gas industry

Global IT consulting firm Mahindra Satyam is trying to help the oil and gas industry recruit industry-ready professionals by forging a partnership with India's University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES).

The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop research and projects, including consultations that both will find mutually beneficial to their interests.

A statutory university located at the Pondha valley, Dehradun, India, UPES offers graduate and post-graduate programs for the high growth sectors of oil & gas, power, aviation, shipping, automobile, infrastructure, electronics, IT, and logistics & supply chain. It also offers executive programmes via distance learning.

Under the terms of the MoU, UPES will develop certificate programmes and conduct training sessions for engineers of Mahindra Satyam. In turn, Mahindra Satyam will help UPES students gain industry experience and practical competencies through training sessions for students and faculty.

B.K. Mishra, senior vice president and business head - Energy and Utilities, Mahindra Satyam, said the "MoU strengthens our partnership and focus on providing cutting edge solutions to the energy and utilities sector."

For its part, UPES stands to gain from the partnership by designing courses that are aligned with the needs of the industry.

"The agreement will provide opportunity to gain academic benefits for students, especially from energy disciplines and also to faculty by encouraging industry interaction. The agreement will enable both the organisations to exchange skill-sets enhancing & strengthening their resources through mutual exposure," said Dr. Parag Diwan, vice chancellor, UPES.

Mahindra Satyam, which is part of the US$15.4 billion Mahindra Group, has interests in 18 key industries with leadership positions in automobile, IT, and vacation ownership.
