The manufacturer of Concentrate of Poppy Straw (CPS), has just implemented a biometrics solution to monitor access control to high security areas at its new facility in Northern Tasmania, Australia.
TPI Enterprise director, Jarrod Ritchie said keeping manufacturing and storage areas fully secure is critical to the business.
"After 10 years experience in the licit opiate industry, I know that proximity cards or pin number doors are not the ideal solution," he said.
The company has installed iris recognition for 50 users to provide unquestionable proof of entry and exit into high security areas.
Ritchie said single-factor authentication was used in the past and was not as effective.
But a new facility allowed the company to install the system in July during construction.
TPI is using Argus Solutions' Cornerstone Identity Management software. It has also been deployed in prisons in Melbourne and Mexico.
Argus Solutions CEO and cofounder Bruce Lyman said Cornerstone integrates with more than 150 biometric devices so there is an infinite number of security options for different industries.
At TPI, Lyman said the technology costs A$8 (US$6) per person per month.
