Icesoft Technologies Inc. said its Icereader SDK is being incorporated into the Macromedia ColdFusion application server, providing for conversion of HTML-based data into PDF or Flash content.
Macromedia has licensed Icesoft"s Icereader SDK technology for use in the ColdFusion MX 7 release, said Robert Lepack, vice president of marketing at Icesoft.
Although a Macromedia official is quoted in an Icesoft press release about the arrangement, a Macromedia representative on Friday said the company was not yet ready to talk about the deal. In the press statement, a Macromedia executive cites the Icesoft software as enabling Macromedia to render documents seamlessly across multiple formats.
The Icereader technology is a Java HTML rendering component, Lepack said. "In the case of Macromedia, they actually use it server-side to parse Web content on servers and convert it into a different file format such as Flash in their case and even PDF," Lepack said.
Icepack"s SDKs support rendering of HTML documents in "headless" J2EE server environments. Icepack is defining a headless server environment as one in which the browser engine does not render content onto a display or a monitor, but converts the content to a different format, said Lepack.
