"We had several blade PCs set up for trial at our school in May 2007 for a week. We tested them with all our programmes, making sure everything would work. Everyone was very pleased with the performance. So we made the purchase in September and everything was installed and ready around mid-October," said Joe Leithhead, IT coordinator at Kowloon Junior School.
"Through the centralised management console, we can remotely monitor and control all blade PCs and thin clients, without physically going to the problems," said Frederick Wong, supervisory ICT technician of Kowloon Junior School.
"Now we can easily finish all the start-up and health check procedures every day in the morning before the school starts. We've noticed at a 20 per cent increase in operational support efficiency following the HP Remote Client Solutions deployment," Wong said.
Simplified virtualisation solution
HP last week announced a simplified client virtualisation solution that helps businesses reduce costs with blade personal computers.
As an extension of HP's end-to-end client virtualisation portfolio, the US-based computer company is collaborating with Citrix to integrate high-performance HP blade PCs and Citrix XenDesktop 3 for better computer performance than a traditional PC.
Combined with Citrix XenDesktop 3, HP bc2200 and bc2800 blade PCs provide simplified desktop management and centralised delivery that leverages the power of both the data centre and endpoint device.
Centralised blade PCs
HP's centralised blade PCs are said to help keep data safe within the data centre, and enable professionals to interact using confidential and business-critical data.
Administrator tools are offered by the HP blade PCs with XenDesktop 3 suite to simplify IT management with remote access and control of hardware and software configuration, quick set up, and user allocation tools to aid infrastructure control and scalability.
The suite offers a streamlined client architecture that offers dedicated processing and graphics power to users in remote locations. All HP blade PCs are also configured for single- and multi-site data backup with automatic user reallocation to get employees back to work quickly in the event of an individual blade failure or bigger disasters.
