CollabNet hosts Scrum project management

CollabNet has begun offering a hosted version of its ScrumWorks Pro software for managing agile software development projects, and has added some reporting capabilities to the software as well.

Introduced Thursday, ScrumWorks 4.5 enables users to access the package via a cloud paradigm. It also is accessible via an on-premise installation. The product enables teams to collaborate on software projects and is geared to the Scrum variant of agile development. Iterative development and incremental delivery of software are supported, said Victor Szalvay, CollabNet CTO.

Using the cloud version allows for rapid deployment, Szalvay said. "You don't have the administrative overhead [and] you have our uptime SLAs (Service Level Agreements)."

Also featured are program- and team-level Web-based reporting features for monitoring and modeling work. Organizations can track hours, work more effectively under fixed budgets or schedules and more accurately forecast release and iteration milestones, CollabNet said. Reports include: hours spent by theme, lean cycle time, release burn up, team average velocity, and epic budget process.

Hosted and behind-the-firewall versions of ScrumWorks 4.5 are priced at $28 per user per month.

Also in agile project management vein, Telerik updated its TeamPulse agile project management suite this week, adding "Ideas Management" tools to help teams better capture and preserve contextual meaning for concepts and ideas. Dubbed the Q3 2010 release, the update also synchronizes with Microsoft's Team Foundation Server application lifecycle management server.

Plans call for enabling TeamPulse to work with the unified communications server early next year. Lync support will provide a presence-aware notification system that alerts users when and where other team members are online and available. Users can then open up voice or chat sessions.
