Design solutions firm Adobe Systems has called for more Malaysian entries to its ninth annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA).

A company representative said that there were more than 70 Malaysian entries in 2008 and 20 semi-finalists. Malaysian submissions to reach the semi-finals included entries in the Designer/ Developer, Motion Graphics, Illustration, Packaging, Photography, and Print Communications categories.

These included semi-finalists from The One Academy of Communication Design College, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, the Multimedia University, the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the KDU College (Penang Campus).

Adobe senior vice president of marketing, Ann Lewnes, said that the competition for multiple disciplines, is now held in partnership with the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda).

"The awards ceremony will be held during the Icograda World Design Congress in Beijing, China in October 2009," said Lewnes, "gathering 2,500 delegates from around the globe."

Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is the world body for professional communication design. Founded in 1963, Icograda promotes communication designers' vital role in society and commerce. For more information, visit www.icograda.org.

Lewnes said that submissions would be accepted online until 5 June, 2009 (www.ADAAentry.com). "For the final phase of judging, semifinalists would be asked to submit their source files and a physical aspect of their entry. Finalists will be invited to Beijing, China and the Icograda World Design Congress and awarded software and cash prizes."

Government grant for Malaysian companies

Lewnes added that in Malaysia, the availability from the government agency Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) of a Networked Content Development Grant for local companies has created interest in digital content development for online digital TV, 2.5/3G mobile data services for information purposes (ie.Tourism, e-Government, e-Learning, e-Health), entertainment, E-commerce, and interactive Education.

"Interactive design firms are eager to add creative and technical talent from great design institutions as they work to redefine how people access, consume, and interact with media," said Lewnes. "Our partnership with Icograda will help us showcase breakthrough talent on a global stage, and preview the bright future of interactive design."
