Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has signed a five-year, US$100 million outsourcing contract with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline.

Under the agreement, Dallas-based ACS will provide monitoring and management services for more than 5,000 Unix, Wintel, OS/390 mainframe and OpenVMS servers in GlaxoSmithKline data centers in the U.S. and the U.K., according to a statement.

ACS will also be responsible for facility management and data center operations at four GSK sites: King of Prussia, Pa.; Research Triangle Park, N.C.; and Stevenage and Brentford, both of which are located in the U.K.

ACS became an IT outsourcing partner to the pharmaceutical firm in June 2003, when ACS began supporting GlaxoSmithKline"s legacy business systems, the companies said.

"Our goal is to measurably reduce the overall trouble-ticket volume for both applications and infrastructure components," said Lynn Blodgett, group president of ACS Commercial Solutions.
