What Will Zelda on the Wii U Play Like?

26.08.2011
On the Nintendo Wii?, Zelda was all about the motion controls. But what about the Wii U, which incorporates a touchscreen?

In a conversation with , Nintendo's Eiji Aonuma said that he's got plenty of ideas for that touchscreen, which "really allows for some different interactions."

"For example, imagine having the contents of Link's satchel available to you on the screen of your controller, and using elements of the pouch to interact with gameplay on the television," he said.

And expanding on the motion control functionality found in Twilight Princess? and Skyward Sword, Aonuma said that he can see the "controller itself becoming the different items that Link is using, allowing you to interact with the game world and with the game items in a very different way."

Seems like the touchscreen offers lots of possible gameplay types, particularly in regard to the "asymetric gameplay" found in Battle Mii and other tech demos. Don't expect Zelda on the Wii U anytime soon though--as always, Nintendo will take their sweet time.
