WarioWare DIY developers talk about the game's development

26.02.2010
To celebrate the announcement of an English-language release for WarioWare D.I.Y., Nintendo of Europe has with the team behind the latest iteration of the minigame series. While it may lack the sex appeal of Metroid: Other M or the sky-high hype of Super Mario Galaxy 2, WarioWare D.I.Y. does have a storied development history, which the team shared with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

Need more motivation to check out the story? Here's a few choice bits of knowledge dropped in the interview:

* The game's concept was conceived before the Nintendo DS took form, as the developer discovered the fun of creating WarioWare's "microgames" back during the development of the series' GameCube debut.

* D.I.Y.'s developers plan on creating two new microgames per week, in addition to the creations from the fans themselves. The developers are hoping to include a category called "Big Name Games," which will include longtime Metroid developer Yoshio Sakamoto and possibly Shigeru Miyamoto himself.

* Many of the microgames pre-installed in D.I.Y. were created during the testing process by Nintendo debuggers, which allowed the creators to appear in the credits as developers, to which Iwata noted "Nothing like that has ever happened before."
