Vodafone rings in bush broadband

Vodafone will Thursday launch its upgraded mobile 3G network to improve coverage under-served regional areas.

The carrier will launch the 2100Mhz network following its merger with Hutchison 3 in February this year in major regional centres.

Vodafone Australia CTO Andy Reeves said the upgrade will increase choice in regional areas. "We are committed to investing in our network to provide Australians with... 3G services where they're needed most," Reeves said.

The company claimed the second network upgrade on August 31, using the 900Mhz band, will increase its High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) coverage from 80 to 94 per cent of the population.

The upgrades will not affect 2G services.
