Travelling e-mail

Fujitsu has implemented an e-mail service for customers using the company as an e-mail service provider. The service is aimed at business individuals who travel a lot, aiming to enable them to send e-mails without having to switch from one mode of Internet access to another, or change their ISP settings.

Bill Keenan, head of Fujitsu's Eject ISP division, says SMTP authentication can now be enabled to allow business travellers to send and receive e-mails via the same Eject server from anywhere in the world, using any access mode.

"Customers simply advise us that they require this facility and Eject will modify their account accordingly," he says, adding that this service is provided at no extra charge.

Keenan says: "We give users a different SMTP and configure the e-mail client. For customers with IT knowledge we provide them with the needed information and they can reconfigure themselves, or we can remotely access their computer and do it for them."

"Users need only reconfigure their laptop or PC once. When a different connection is used anywhere in the world, the system is already configured," he says.

According to Keenan the service is available to customers using any of Fujitsu's five branded Internet servers, and through any connection, with the exception of WBS's iBurst. He says iBurst has made a ruling not to support SMTP if the users do not use their server to prevent spam.
