Top Story: Super Meat Boy Ultra Edition coming this April

03.03.2011
Speaking at GDC, Edmund McMillen of Team Meat revealed that PC owners would be getting a special edition of Super Meat Boy at retail. That's your Top Story this morning.

PC gamers will be able to pick up a super-special "Ultra Edition" of at retail this coming April. The new edition will cost $20 and comes bundled with a bunch of physical extras for fans of Team Meat and their work.

The special edition package comes with a 40-page art booklet, extended versions of Team Meat's comics, a soundtrack CD featuring additional audio clips and a poster featuring the disturbing-but-impressive that did the rounds last year.

Getting a retail release is a good indicator of success for a downloadable game. For example, a few weeks back it was announced that the terrifying Amnesia: The Dark Descent would also be making an appearance on store shelves, albeit sporting some . Meat Boy's box art, thankfully, keeps things simple and clear.

The advantage of retail releases of formerly download-only titles is obvious: those who don't have the facility to download things get to play them. And while the Internet is taken for granted by many people these days, there are still plenty of people who perhaps don't have a reliable Internet connection, are struggling with slow broadband or dial-up -- or simply prefer a physical copy of their games.

If you've never experienced Super Meat Boy's soul-crushing difficulty and illegal drug-level addictiveness, the Ultra Edition, available in April, will be a great place to hop into his blood-soaked, chainsaw-filled world.
