Top Story: Here's Crysis 2 on PS3

03.03.2011
Both PC and 360 owners have been treated to a sneak peek at Crysis 2 so far. This morning's Top Story is the announcement that PS3 owners can soon get in on the action.

EA confirmed at GDC last night that the PS3 version of the demo will be hitting the PlayStation Network on March 15. This is some two weeks after the PC demo finally arrived, and considerably later than the original 360 preview version. Here's some footage of the demo running on PS3:

This isn't the first time the PS3 has been last out of the gate when it comes to multiplayer demos. And sometimes Sony's machine doesn't get a multiplayer beta at all. When it comes to multiplayer-focused titles, Xbox 360 owners often seem to be the ones to get priority. This is perhaps understandable, given the fact that many gamers believe Xbox LIVE to offer the superior online gaming experience despite having to pay a subscription fee for it. But that doesn't stop this sort of thing being frustrating for those who only own a PS3 -- or indeed for PC owners who have no desire to own a console. Crysis became well-known as a PC title originally, after all.

The Xbox 360 has also played host to two different multiplayer demos in the last two months, while the PS3 version is yet to receive its first. Is this fair? Probably not, but for EA it probably makes good business sense.

EA says that 1.7 million people downloaded the original multiplayer demo on 360 and they have since taken on board user feedback to improve the experience. The new demo includes two maps ("Skyline" and "Pier 17") and two game modes ("Team Instant Action" and "Crash Site") for players to enjoy on all platforms.

Crysis 2 is releasing simultaneously on 360, PS3 and PC on March 22.
