Top Story: GTA V codenamed RUSH?

09.03.2011
GTA V rumors abound in this morning's Top Story as Internet sleuthing reveals work may well be underway on the new title.

Internet sleuth recently uncovered a number of casting calls for an "interactive project" codenamed RUSH. The casting company is listed as Telsey + Company, a firm used for a number of past Rockstar projects. And the is certainly reminiscent of a typical GTA game.

By itself, this is somewhat flimsy evidence of a new GTA. But there are other pieces of supporting evidence, too. Actress Shandar Robinson lists a role as "Female City Street" in RUSH on her , with the production company listed as Take 2 Games. And GTA IV had a similar one-word codename when casting was underway for it -- FROZEN.

Two characters mentioned in the role descriptions don't appear in the casting call itself: "Simon" and "Albert de Silva." Simon is referenced in the call for the role of Nervous Jerry, who is apparently "terrified of Simon." And Albert appears in the description for Kevin de Silva, "Albert's fat, FPS-playing son" who "smokes a lot of weed" and is "into making racist comments while playing online." Superannuation suggests that one of these characters could conceivably be the game's protagonist, as the larger role would typically be cast separately. Perhaps Simon and Albert are protagonist and antagonist? Or perhaps there are two playable characters?

This is, of course, all conjecture as nothing has yet been confirmed about the game's existence, let alone details. Reading down the character list, though, it certainly sounds like the kind of exaggerated cast we're used to seeing in GTA titles. And analysts predict that GTA V will be announced during Take 2's fiscal year 2012 due to the expiration of contracts between Take 2 and key members of developer Rockstar North's staff in January 2012.

It's sensible to assume one of the most successful franchises of all time will indeed be returning for another numbered instalment. Exactly what form the new game will take remains to be seen -- but assuming this casting call is indeed for GTA V, it offers a few tantalizing clues.
