The New York Times Co. claims 50M online visitors in Sept.

The New York Times website and other sites that belong to the New York Times company are continuing to grow their audiences, and collectively had 50 million unique visitors in September, according to Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., the chairman and publisher of the New York Times Company.

Among newspaper companies, that is a very large number. Several months ago, the Los Angeles Times , which generated 127 million page views. Sulzberger did not say how many page views the nytimes.com, boston.com, and about.com had received in September.

"The New York Times Company ... is now the 11th most visited parent company on the Web in the United States," he said, adding that his company had a reach that represented 30% of the online audience in the United States.

Sulzberger made the comment at his keynote speech during the WebbyConnect conference in Laguna Niguel, California.
