Telecom New Zealand Ltd. has developed an online system for managing its building emergency plans.

The BEP e-compliance system is a portal for updating key information about the buildings, and has been designed to meet compliance requirements under both New Zealand and Australian legislation. It has also been rolled out at Telecom New Zealand subsidiaries in Australia.

Corporate property manager David Clark says the system is the first of its kind in New Zealand.

?The last time we looked at our property was around Y2K time,? he says. ?We had a bulky, paper-based system that was not updated regularly.

?Our project manager, Billie Searle, looked at the Global Safety Network application and took it to a new level. Now, it?s interactive with our external suppliers, and there is a database for all company information.?

BEP is made up of four elements: emergency plans, compliance routines, wardens? roles and emergency preparedness training.

It is currently hosted by Infinity, but Clark says it may be brought back into Gen-i.
