Study: Philippines' demand for LCD TVs will rise

12.07.2006
Demand for large-screen LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs will continue to rise as plummeting prices entice more Filipino buyers to upgrade their entertainment experience.

A study by Germany-based research firm GfK forecasts that LCD TVs will account for about 40 percent of total TV sales in the Philippines this year, up from 12 percent in 2005.

Appliance store network Abenson reported more than 200 percent growth in sales of LCD TVs in the first quarter of this year alone. As viewing, gaming, and PC-based activities converge, Abenson predicts that LCD TVs will dominate and account for more than half of viewing systems in the country.
