Star Wars and fans, rejoice. Your two favorite things are about to collide.

LucasArts and BioWare Tuesday announced Star Wars: The Old Republic, the spiritual successor to with an MMO twist and planned for release on PC.

But unlike other MMOs, the tag-team publishers promised an extra helping of story in The Old Republic, in addition to the combat, exploration, and character progression that genre fans have come to expect.

"Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the most critically acclaimed Star Wars game in LucasArts' history, and a preeminent example of our company's storytelling heritage," said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts, in a statement. "For a long time, we've wanted to return to the franchise in a grand way, and we felt that the best setting for it was an online world that would allow millions of people to participate in the experience together."

Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or other classic Star Wars classes, says LucasArts, and define their own path as Dark Side synthesizers or Force-loving rebels. As expected, players can also team up with friends online for power in numbers.

A release date was not announced.
