SRW OG2 Announced for PS3

18.05.2011
After years of waiting, Super Robot Taisen is finally making its way to the PlayStation 3. And hey, it may even make it to North America this time around.

It is the sequel to Super Robot Taisen Original Generations on the GBA, which previously held the distinction of being the only SRW to make it to North America (courtesy of Atlus). Unlike other entries that mash-up television shows, the mechs featured in original generations are all completely original.

It's a longshot, but Atlus reps have indicated to me that they would only consider bringing over the Super Robot Taisen series if it were an Original Generations release on the PS3. This game fulfills both those requirements, meaning that it has a chance. A few significant hurdles still exist though, including the fact that it follows on from the PS2 remakes that were never released in North America (and include a number of events that weren't shown in the GBA version).

This is the second Super Robot Wars to be announced this year, the first being the recently-released Super Robot Wars Z2 for the PSP. Namco Bandai is currently celebrating the franchise's 20th anniversary.

For interested importers, Namco Bandai will be releasing a limited boxed set that includes the game and the recently completed anime for a cool 41,790 yen ($513). The game itself will be available for 8329 yen ($102) later this year.
