Rolls Royce revs up offshore engineering services

23.04.2010
Rolls Royce has signed a deal with Tata Consultancy Services to expand its engineering services in India.

As part of the agreement, TCS will build an engineering centre in Bangalore, focusing on services ranging from initial design through to the full production of systems. A value for the contract has not been disclosed.

Rolls Royce already has an engineering presence in India and is attempting to substantially grow its business there.

Anil Shrikhande, the company's president in India, described the country as "a strategically significant market as well as an increasingly important technology services location for Rolls-Royce". The deal would help with speeding up development processes, he indicated.

Rolls Royce outsources its IT and supply chain management to HP, formerly EDS, under a 12-year, £1.3 billion (US$2 billion) deal signed in 2000. Many of its systems are centred around global SAP enterprise resource planning.
