Report: Facebook Connect has close to 1 million users

Even though it's less than a year old, Facebook Connect has experienced sharp growth, according to an . The company also claimed that some sites which use the service had doubled their registrations, thanks to Facebook Connect.

The service lets Facebook users login into Facebook Connect partner sites using their Facebook account and share information with Facebook friends.

All Facebook's Nick O'Neill noted that Facebook Connect surpassed 100,000 users last December. Since that time, it has experienced exponential growth. "Our latest numbers suggest that Facebook Connect now has close to 1 million users," O'Neill said.

All Facebook gets its information by maintaining a directory that tracks statistics on Facebook Connect applications and users.

The company said that sites using Facebook Connect were also benefitting from the service. "Early results have been positive, as many of the websites that use Facebook Connect as an alternate to account registration have seen 50-100% increases in registrations on their site," Malorie Lucich, a spokesperson for Facebook told The Industry Standard. "These sites have also seen 15-30% increase in engagement."

New Web sites are regularly integrating with Facebook Connect. For instance, eMusic, an Internet music store, . When eMusic users login using Facebook Connect, they can publish their eMusic album ratings and personal review directly to their Facebook profile.
