Regulator beefs up female membership with board appointments

announced the appointment of two new female directors on Thursday, diversifying its own boards before it requires public companies to on boardroom diversity.

Melanie McLaren will take over as the FRC's executive director of , which will include responsibility for accounting and reporting standards.

New director of accounting Michelle Sansom will work on the development of the FRC's priorities on international accounting standards and finalising changes to the UK GAAP, the regulator said.

McLaren, who will start the role on 11 June, is interim chief risk officer at Friends Life Group. She was previously a partner at PwC's financial services assurance practice from 1999 to 2009.

Sansom is currently a project director at the FRC's Accounting Standards Board, having previously held roles in industry and in the Big Four accountancy firms.

"Melanie [McLaren] brings to the FRC a wealth of experience of accounting and financial reporting," chief executive Stephen Haddrill (pictured) said.
