Queensland government appoints CIO

A former Gartner analyst has been appointed CIO for the Queensland government.

ICT consultant Peter Grant is the new head of the Queensland government"s Office of Government Information and Communication Technology.

Announcing the appointment, Department of Public Works director general Mal Grierson said the position requires a wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors to encourage joint collaboration.

Grant"s diverse background includes positions as a university lecturer, managing director of his own business and director of consulting with Gartner. He has also held senior IT positions in the public sector.

Grierson said the new CIO will be responsible for formulating partnership arrangements with the private sector to aid delivery of ICT.

"Across the public sector, he will play a central role in leading multi-agency and whole-of-government ICT projects," he said.

This includes implementation of the Smart Directions Statement for ICT across the government as well as guiding ICT investment.

Queensland"s Office of Government ICT is a division of the Department of Public Works.
