Purported BlackBerry 10 image leaks, new RIM phones coming to Verizon

RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 10 managed to eke out a bit of attention this week even though most of the buzz has been reserved for the new 8-based , Motorola's new and 's anticipated 5.

Verizon CMO Tami Erwin that the carrier will have BlackBerry 10 devices ready to roll in Q1 of 2013. Erwin said Verizon will also have multiple Windows 8 phones available in Q4, joining carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile that have already backed the mobile platform. No word on whether Verizon will carry the new , however. 

BlackBerry fans got a tease this week as well when a purported image of a BlackBerry 10 L-Series phone leaked via Instagram (shown here).

RIM earlier this summer disappointed investors and customers when it was pushing out availability of BlackBerry 10 phones from fall to early 2013. 

The BlackBerry 10 OS, based on the QNX realtime kernel, is expected to power phones with revamped user interfaces (including a touch keyboard) and advanced multitasking, as . 

One other RIM tidbit kicking around this week: The company has reportedly filed a patent application for a tablet with a concealed keyboard. on a potentially intriguing PlayBook twist that could surface sometime down the road.
