Police investigate $2.4 million printer cartridge theft

NSW police have charged a worker at a printer and photocopying company in relation to the theft and subsequent sale of thousands of toner cartridges during the past six years.

It has been alleged the thefts occurred between 2005 and September this year, while the 35-year-old man was employed at a company based in Homebush Bay, Sydney.

Investigators allege approximately 23,000 printer toner cartridges had been stolen before being on-sold privately.

The total retail value of the theft is estimated to be worth $2.4 million.

At this stage, investigators from Flemington Local Area Command have laid charges in relation to the thefts which occurred this year, counting a total of 5000 items.

The man was charged yesterday afternoon at Auburn Police Station, with larceny as a clerk/servant.
