Now, a virtual 'lo hei'

23.01.2009
Networking company Cisco hosted a virtual 'lo hei' for employees and their families as a precursor to the Chinese New Year celebrations Thursday (22 Jan)--a first-ever virtual 'lo hei' through Cisco TelePresence.

'Lo hei' is a traditional Chinese celebration where families and friends gather around the table and, on cue, proceed to toss shredded ingredients 'yu sheng' (a Chaozhou-style raw fish salad) into the air with chopsticks while saying 'jíxiáng huà', (auspicious wishes) out loud to mark the start of a prosperous new year.

Unique, 'in-person' experience

According to the networking firm, 10 cities in Asia Pacific came together using Cisco TelePresence to usher in the Year of the Ox in a unique, 'in-person' experience.

Cities that were part of this virtual 'lo hei' include Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, Sydney, Seoul, Taipei, Bangalore, Manila and Bangkok, said the company.
