New Tony Hawk in 2012

The long-running skateboard series is taking a year off following the failure of Tony Hawk Ride and Shred, but it looks like it'll be taken out of mothballs next year.

Tony Hawk Ride and Tony Hawk Shred were met with disappointing reviews and sales, the latter only selling only 3000 copies in its first week on the shelves in North America. Based on recent comments from Hawk though, the series is still alive and kicking.

"We're actually right in the middle of making a whole new plan right now," Hawk said when asked by PixelatedGeek whether he has a new game in the pipeline.

"We're going to do something probably for next year, but I can't give too much away," he added. "But definitely we're going to make new games, yes."

Activision previously announced that they would be releasing "no skateboard games" during the calendar year. Based on Hawk's comments, it would seem that they are aiming to relaunch the series in 2012, or at least take a very different approach to the peripheral-based action of the last two games.

Don't expect to hear any official announcements for a while though.
