eBay, Google, Nokia, Skype and Yahoo have teamed up on forming a new industry association.

These companies formed the Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) to promote the understanding and resolution of Internet policy issues in the Asia Pacific.

Led by Dr. John Ure, director of the Telecommunications Research Project (TRP) at Hong Kong University, this coalition is the first in Hong Kong, and in Asia, to bring together five technology giants to the open Internet.

The AIC will focus on seeking engagement with policy makers, industry and users to promote the aims of the coalition.

The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) was launched on 14 June, 2011 at the eBay offices in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Stephen Mak, Hong Kong government chief information officer, delivered the keynote address to commemorate the launch.
