NetComm shifts to automatic broadband setup

NetComm has launched an ISP Services Suite in Australia that automates modem installation for new broadband customers.

"ISPs who are intent on do-it-yourself installations always run into problems with customers who are not technically savvy," NetComm managing director, David Stewart, said. "This is where our ISP Services Suite steps in to make the end-user experience as seamless as possible."

The product was designed over the past 18 months after consultation with ISPs to find out their needs when it came to installing ADSL modems. The suite includes five different services, each requiring various level of interaction from the end-user.

"On average, an ISP will take 3-4 support calls before successfully setting up a modem for a customer," NetComm sales manager of value-add channels, Steven Norris, said. "But this new suite cuts those calls in half, allowing mass scale provisioning without the huge support load."

The suite will be sold through the channel, but Stewart warned it would not be a simple box-moving exercise.

"It's not an out-of-the-box solution. Each suite needs to be tailored for the specific ISP to include billing systems, server setup and network compatibility," he said. "There's a lot of integration work to be done by channel partners."
