NES Mod Lets You Play Classic Games On Your Smartphone

28.05.2012
Ever wished there was a way of playing your favorite NES titles on a present-day device, like your smartphone? If you still happen to have your old NES console handy, then now there is a way.

figured out an old NES console to his phone using Bluetooth modem, , and Arduino. An Arduino Mega inside the NES console, will connect to the BlueSMiRF chip. Once switched on, the Bluetooth board works by searching and paring with something like a phone or tablet--it basically gives non-Bluetooth devices that capability. Your phone and console are then paired.

Once connected, your phone pulls data from the console, including games and controller commands. Dustin also added LED lights to the Arduino to indicate when certain controller buttons get pressed. All you need to do now is open up an emulator app and pick your NES game of choice!

The only downside to this mod is that it's not the most portable way of playing NES games, seeing as you still need the console within a certain range of your phone (and switched on). Of course, if your NES console is perhaps slighty faulty, this is a great way of breathing new life into it.
