Motorola on Tuesday (August 25) released information on its contributions to relief efforts underway in Taiwan, in the wake of Typhoon Morakot which hit sections of the country earlier this month. Through the Motorola Foundation, the technology giant had donated US$50,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies to fund their work in Taiwan. At the same time, Motorola employees in Taiwan had participated in in-office fundraising activities to help cover the cost of reparations work, yielding US$33,000.

In a statement to the media, Motorola executives said that they had also worked with local authorities to donate communications equipment--among them 200 units of professional radios and chargers--for rescue work. "Motorola is deeply saddened by this tragedy and offers sympathy to all those who are suffering in the wake of the disaster," said the statement, which also reaffirmed Motorola's commitment "to being a good corporate citizen" in Taiwan, where it first set up shop in 1967.
