In an interview with , Senior Managing Director of Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto refuted the generally negative review scores Wii Music received. The game, which is his first Nintendo project since Wii Fit currently has a 63 out of 100 review average on both and .

When asked about his thoughts on Wii Music's low scores, Miyamoto responded with "I really appreciate that the gaming media has a different view of anything as new as Wii Music today." He adds "it simply symbolizes how different and unique Wii Music is."
