Oracle Tuesday announced its first leadership change for the region in 15 years with Brian Mitchell taking over Asia Pacific operations from June 1, 2006.

The changes were announced by Derek Williams who has become chairman of Oracle Asia Pacific and Japan. He first joined Oracle in 1988 and headed up the newly created Asia Pacific division in 1991.

During this time, Williams has grown the company to 67 offices in 29 countries across the Asia-Pacific region and Japan.

He also spearheaded Oracle's strategic initiatives to leverage key market opportunities in China and India, now Oracle's fastest-growing markets worldwide.

"We spent the last 15 years building an Asia Pacific and Japan business that generated US$1.7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2005," Williams said. "I believe our new management team has the experience and enthusiasm to build an even more successful business for Oracle in years to come."

Mitchell's management team includes senior VPs Mark Gibbs, Nick Evered, Harry Storer and Bronwyn Hastings in addition to the countries' managing directors.
