LittleBigPlanet 2 announced, coming to PS3 this winter

10.05.2010
LittleBigPlanet 2 was announced by Sony Computer Entertainment today, bringing tons of new customization options and full backwards compatibility with previously-made levels to the PlayStation 3 this winter. Read on for the first trailer and initial details.

The biggest new addition coming in LittleBigPlanet 2 is the ability to create entirely new types of games outside the platforming realm, as the trailer embedded above shows racing, shooters, and puzzle games created within the LittleBigPlanet framework. For those who'd prefer to keep on platforming, LittleBigPlanet 2 looks to expand upon the deep customization options of the original, allowing players to link levels and create entire platforming sagas. Seasoned creators needn't start from scratch in LittleBigPlanet 2, as the game is backwards compatible with levels, items, and designs from the first game.

The trailer doesn't explain how players will go about creating these new types of games, but we're sure to learn more at next month's E3 press conference and in the subsequent months running up to the game's winter 2010 launch.
