LG's Thin P430, P530 Laptops: Large Screens, Lightweight

06.05.2011
LG has recently introduced two new laptops with not just thin and lightweight bodies, but also slim LED LCD screens and display bezels.

The smaller bezel allows the ultrathin P430 to effectively stuff a 14-inch screen into a 13-inch body, one-upping Apple's MacBook Air ultraportable. The 15.6-inch P530, likewise, has more screen real estate while also weighing less than 5 pounds-lighter than many conventional 14-inch laptops.

In the company's for its new "Blade" series, LG states that the 14-inch P430 is up to 22 percent slimmer and the bezel 40 percent narrower than competing laptops in its class. The P430 is 0.94 inches thin--about a third of an inch thicker than the MacBook Air--and 4.28 pounds (more than a pound heavier than Apple's 2.9 pound super-slim laptop). Keep in mind, though, that the P430 is a 13.3-inch ultraportable with a slightly bigger screen. It also has a DVD multi-drive built-in, rare for laptops of this size.

The P530 has the same slim design. This 15.6-inch laptop weighs 4.85 pounds and is 1.11 inches thin--not bad for a mid-sized laptop.

LG has designed both the P430 and the P530 with a strong metal case and brushed aluminum finish available in "Misty Blue" or "Titan Black." Both are packed with second-generation Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processors; SRS HD sound; and up to 8GB memory capacity.

No word yet on pricing, though you can expect the P430 to begin rolling out at the end of May and the P530 in June in markets outside of North America at first.
