Kodak to release dual-lens camera

Kodak Philippines Ltd. announced that its new EasyShare V570 digital camera, with both an optical zoom and a wide angle lens, will be available in Philippine market on March 17 for P29,995 (US$583).

Billed by Kodak as the world's first dual-lens camera, the V570 features a wide 23 mm lens with a non-extending 39mm to 117 mm Schneider-Kreuzhach C-Variogon prism zoom lens for a combined 5x optical zoom.

Capable of 5-megapixel shots, the V750 will automatically compile a 180-degree photo by combining three separate images, said Ma. Angela B. Francisco, business development manager for digital products at Kodak during a sneak preview for the press. Francisco emphasized that the V750 is the first camera to do automatic 'panoramic stitching.' With other cameras, stitching can only be done after the photos have been downloaded on a PC.

Targeted at the lifestyle consumer market, the V570 will ship with a docking station that can be used to recharge the camera's battery. The camera also has 32M bytes of internal memory and has a SD (secure digital) card slot for additional memory. The product ships with Kodak's EasyShare software for both Microsoft Corp.'s Windows and Apple Computer Inc.'s Mac OS.

The V570 is less than an inch thick, and photos are viewable through a 2.5 inch LCD (liquid crystal display). The V570 will also record TV-quality video at up to 30 frames per second using MPEG-4 compression, Francisco said.
