Juniper dumps BitGravity CDN tech

Juniper Networks is reportedly dropping the BitGravity content delivery networking (CDN) technology it and refocusing its CDN efforts.

According to a SeekingAlpha post by , a streaming and online media analyst, Juniper will no longer focus its CDN activities on the BitGravity technology and has backed away from offering a "complete... end-to-end CDN solution." Juniper acquired BitGravity technology and engineering talent in January, and had planned to introduce new CDN products based on it this year.

That will not happen now, according to Rayburn's post, which Juniper confirmed.

"The company said they came to the decision that building a complete CDN solution didn't make a lot of sense for a company like Juniper, so instead they are focusing their efforts on their strengths: the core Media Flow content delivery and caching engine. This will be the focus for the company and they will continue to invest, develop, enhance and sell the solution," Rayburn states.

Customers waiting for an end-to-end CDN systems with service management from Juniper, though, are "out of luck," Rayburn posts.
