Jetstar's plight to Honolulu

14.09.2006
For the second time this year, Jetstar Airways Pty Ltd.'s Web site suffered downtime for up to an hour and was unable to take online bookings.

The airline's general manager for corporate relations, Simon Westway said the problem was caused by a server overload from increased Web site traffic.

He said the problem isn't new and blamed special offers for new services to Hawaii for the inconvenience.

"The problem occurred earlier this year when we added a number of [additional] flight destinations, which increased the amount of Web site traffic," Westway said.

"We minimized the front-end of the Web site to allow Web bookings [and] to reduce the burden on severs while we address the situation.

"We may be looking to add additional servers to support the increased traffic so the problem will not re-occur."
