iPhone business apps go beyond e-mail and calendar

It seems the iPhone can do everything. It makes calls. It surfs the Web. It plays music. It even plays games (the number of high-quality games on the iPhone is astounding, especially now that an iPhone version of Sim City is on the way).

Owners who get over the lack of a physical keyboard also know that the iPhone is excellent for email and calendar use. But what about other business applications? Ohio State University made a splash earlier this month when it announced it would give iPod Touches (iPods Touch?) , so they can look up videos and images of medical treatments, medications and other information that might be useful for aspiring doctors.

There are many more applications and tools aimed at professionals. Apple lists 16 pages of on the iPhone App Store, with some potentially useful apps -- and some that are simply bizarre.

-- taps into an EU database of suspected terror organizations and individuals whose economic resources should be frozen. The app can scan your address book or look up individual contacts for terror ties. US$11.99.

-- The awkwardly named lets users perform a wide variety of business calculations, including depreciation, linear regression, lease computations, and interest rate conversions. A lot easier than breaking out your legal pad and figuring out compound interest longhand. $24.99

-- is pretty self explanatory. It turns your iPhone into a PowerPoint remote so you don't have to carry around more devices than necessary to make presentations. $9.99.
