IBM Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. last week unveiled plans to jointly develop a method for implementing strained silicon technology on positive and negative transistors. The new manufacturing technique, dubbed dual-stress liner, is designed to improve the performance of processors starting early next year. The technology will be integrated into AMD"s Opteron and Athlon 64 processors and IBM"s Power processors by mid-2005.
