Hewlett-Packard Co. is thought to be on the acquisition trail in New Zealand.

Two senior industry sources have told Computerworld that the probable target is CGNZ Ltd., an independent consultancy that operates in New Zealand under license from Capgemini. One source suggests that HP is looking for resource to service recently-won government business, mainly at the Ministry of Social Development.

In an email, an anonymous source within HP says the company is in the process of purchasing a large consulting organization. The source says the deal will become public in July but at the moment is ?shrouded in secrecy?.

HP managing director Keith Watson wouldn?t comment to Computerworld last week, and CGNZ director Paul Cook didn?t respond to several phone calls.

CGNZ was formed in 2002 as a licensed affiliate of Capgemini. It has more than 140 staff in Auckland and Wellington.

It has also been suggested that Unisys has been looking at CGNZ. Unisys wouldn?t comment.
