HP Mini 1000: The 'mini'-est HP of them all

29.10.2008
It's official. It's the season of the mini-laptop or the 'netbook' as you would like to call it. After a host of releases from Asus, MSI, Acer and Lenovo (among others), HP has updated its lineup of its mini-laptops with three models under the tag of HP mini1000. The HP mini1000 weighs less than 1.2 kg and sports a 10.2 inch screen. Like its contemporaries, it is powered by a 1.6 GHz Atom processor, up to 2 GB of RAM and a 16 GB Solid-State hard drive.

The HP mini1000 runs on Windows XP and comes with Bluetooth and an embedded VGA web camera. On the connectivity front, the mini1000 is wireless enabled and according to HP, by December, 3G connectivity will also be an option.

Among the models under the mini1000 brand, one of them is the 'fashion-inspired' Vivien Tam Edition, which HP claims is targeted at 'glamour-conscious women'. The HP mini1000 is also available with the MIE (Mobile Internet Experience) OS, a customized OS made by HP which offers an intuitive interface aimed at improving internet browsing.

The basic model of the mini1000 is already available in the United States while the Vivien Tam Edition and the model with MIE will be available in December and January respectively. While the basic model is priced at US$400 (Rs. 19,300 approximately), the pricing for the other two models is still in the speculation area.

No news yet on the India launch but the way things are going, don't be surprised if you see these minis in our markets sometime in mid-2009.
