Forty seven home-grown IT companies have achieved world standards, according to Malaysian government agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).

MDeC chief executive officer Dato' Badlisham Ghazali said that the 47 MSC (Multimedia Supercorridor) Malaysia status companies had earned global standards certifications during 2008.

While presenting letters of recognition to representatives of the companies, along with science, technology & innovation deputy minister, Tuan Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Badlisham said: "Through the MSC Malaysia Capability Development Programme (CDP), 15 MSC Malaysia Status companies were awarded a CMMI Maturity Rating."

"In addition, 19 companies earned certification in software testing, 4 companies achieved the ISO 27001 certification--an Information Security Management Standard--and 5 companies earned ISO 9001 certification, which is a Quality Management Standard," he said.

"Four more MSC Malaysia Status companies were honoured for sending their personnel to earn individual professional certification through the MSC Malaysia CDP Professional Development programme (CDP PD)," he said.

MSC Malaysia (www.mscmalaysia.my) is a national initiative spearheaded by the Malaysian Government to promote both the national ICT industry and provide a test-bed for the global ICT industry.
