reports that the two companies have decided against launching the new handset, the first to be based on Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced," a joint statement reads.

Pocket Lint speculates that the decision may have something to do with Steve Jobs. If Jobs' funeral were to happen that day, the two companies would not want to stir up a media frenzy over a competing product, it argues.

It's an interesting theory, not without its merits, but could it perhaps be something to do with Apple and Samsung's tit-for-tat legal dispute over touchscreen and smartphone instead?

Perhaps Samsung is expecting Apple to make a retaliatory move after it initiated action in with the aim of stopping the iPhone 4S going on sale and wants to get all of its legal ducks in a row. Hopefully we'll find out soon.
