Gears of War Board Game

17.05.2011
"Multiplayer gaming" before the advent of online play -- and even computer gaming-- meant gathering a group of friends around a table, fiddling with lots of cardboard chits and plastic figures and immersing yourself in a fantasy world represented by abstract rules. Board gaming remains popular today, and a few licensed video game titles including Doom, StarCraft and World of Warcraft have proven to be very successful. Now Fantasy Flight Games is bringing the adventures of the COG soldiers to your tabletop thanks to Gears of War: The Board Game, the version of the game you can play even if Xbox Live goes down.

The game is a 1-4 player cooperative game where players must work together to complete missions against the Locust horde. Missions have fixed objectives, but the map is randomly generated each play session and the enemies are controlled via a sophisticated and intelligent game system which Fantasy Flight Games claims "lends each type of foe an individual style of play."

The game contains 30 plastic figures, 200 cards, 35 "AI" cards, 17 map tiles, a bunch of dice and a ruler to calculate line of sight. It'll cost $79.95 when it releases, but Fantasy Flight Games hasn't yet announced exactly when that will be. In the meantime, you can find out more about the game .
