GameFly Launching Digital Client This Holiday

09.08.2011
GameFly looks set to revamp the way we think about digital storefronts with the launch of its PC and Mac client this holiday season. By offering an "unlimited PC play" option to its subscribers, GameFly will give access to any of its library of 1,500+ digitally-downloadable titles on a virtual rental basis. While this isn't quite the same as owning a vast library of titles on a service such as Steam, it does allow players to try out a wide variety of games relatively risk-free for a flat monthly fee. The company hasn't yet revealed what the fee which includes unlimited PC play will be.

The digital client will also allow users to manage their queues for physical products, preorder upcoming games, purchase used games and read news published by the GameFly-owned Shacknews.

A closed beta for the service will be rolling out on September 8. All who attend a Los Angeles-based launch event will get themselves a code and one for a friend. Those who aren't able to make it to L.A. can sign up for a beta key at .
